Easy Spanish Rice (सजिलो स्पानिश भुजा)

What is Spanish Rice (स्पानिश भुजा/भात)?

Spanish rice is a side dish made from white rice, tomatoes, garlic, onions, and other ingredients. It is popular in the Southwest part of USA, where it is also referred as “Mexican rice”.

Here is my variation of this recipe

  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 cup uncooked white rice
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 1/2 green bell pepper, chopped
  • 2 cups warm water
  • 1 cup diced ripe tomatoes
  • 1 teaspoon Pepprika powder
  • Chili powder, (or to your taste)
  • Salt, to your taste
  • 1/2 cup Cilantro, for garnishing

Heat oil in a deep skillet over medium heat. Add Pepprika powder to heated oil to let it release the color. Saute rice, onion, and bell pepper until rice is browned and onions are tender. Stir in warm water and tomatoes. Season with chili powder and salt. Cover, and simmer for 10-15 minutes in medium heat, or until rice is cooked and liquid is absorbed.

Decorate with chopped cilantro and serve hot.

Spanish Rice is never complete until you serve Pico de Gallo with it. Go with Easy Fusion Recipe!
