Alu Jeera Tareko – आलु जिरा तारेको (Potato Cumin Fry)

Aloo Jeera Fry is one of the easiest side dish and yet a delicious one. This can compliment almost any meal or can be consumed as snack. Here is my variation of आलु जिरा तारेको -Potato fry recipe:

  • Medium Red Potatoes – 4 to 5
  • Vegetable oil- 3 tbsp
  • Cumin seeds – 1 tbsp
  • Red chili powder – To taste
  • Asafetida (Hing) – A pinch
  • Turmeric powder – 1/2 tsp
  • Salt to taste
  • Cumin powder – 1 tsp
  • Green Cilantro (coriander leaves) to garnish

Peel and cut the potatoes into small cubes. Heat the oil in a pan and add the cumin seeds and let them crackle in the pan for couple of seconds. Add turmeric powder, red chili powder, and hing to the oil and add potatoes. Add salt according to your taste. Cook in slow flame for about 5 mins. Once potatoes are semi done, add cumin powder and continue cooking. Keep on stirring it constantly to avoide it sticking to the pan. Potatoes are cooked when they are evenly browned and crispy.

Place it in a serving plate and garnish with green cilantro leaves. Potato fry (Alu tareko) is ready to be served.

Potato fry (Alu tareko) complements any sweet meal like kheer (rice pudding) or malpuwa really well.
